Principal Investigators
Christine Dehlendorf, MD, MAS, is a Professor and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, with additional appointments in the Departments of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences and Epidemiology and Biostatistics. She founded and directs the Person-Centered Reproductive Health Program, which aims to advance reproductive autonomy and well-being by conducting research and designing programs that center people’s experiences and preferences for sexual and reproductive health and health care, guided by an attention to the intersecting oppressions and structural injustices that impact people’s lives and health. Her work was honored with the Society of Family Planning’s Beacon of Science Award in 2022. She also provides primary care and reproductive health care at the Family Health Center at San Francisco General Hospital and Planned Parenthood.
April Bell, PhD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine (FCM) in the School of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). Prior to joining FCM, she was a postdoctoral scholar with the Preterm Birth Initiative at UCSF. Dr. Bell's research is focused on decreasing reproductive health inequities among women and youth by addressing the impacts of societal and structural biases on adverse birth outcomes, sexually transmitted infections, HIV acquisition, abortion access, and unintended pregnancy. Having worked extensively in both the US and across sub-Saharan Africa, she is interested in using both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, including digital storytelling, to bridge the expanse between US and African settings. Dr. Bell is the founder of Girlx Lab.
Rachel Logan, PhD, MPH, CPH, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine (FCM) in the School of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). Dr. Logan completed a postdoctoral fellowship in FCM, working with the Person-Centered Reproductive Health Program (PCRHP). Prior to joining FCM, she completed her doctorate in Community and Family Health from the University of South Florida. Her research seeks to facilitate individuals managing their sexual and reproductive health independently and through engagement with health systems by improving the patient-provider dynamic and overall care experience. Dr. Logan is crafting a research agenda that recognizes the expertise of Black communities and centers their perspectives to improve sexual and reproductive health and healthcare outcomes.
Staff Members
Mahima Ali (pronouns: she/her) is a Project Coordinator with the Person-Centered Reproductive Health Program (PCRHP). Her work focuses on the Person-Centered Contraceptive Care measure (PCCC) which aims to measure patient centeredness in people’s experience of contraceptive care. Prior to joining PCRHP, Mahima engaged in global health research and served as a CivicSpark fellow, where she contributed to building state and local capacity for improving sanitation access for people experiencing homelessness through cross-sector collaboration and research.
Evelyn García (she/her/ella) is a Clinical Research Coordinator with the Person-Centered Reproductive Health Program (PCRHP). Her current projects focus on female sterilization decision making, “My Decision” and “Female Latinx Attitudes and Perspectives towards Sterilization Before and During COVID-19”, and coordination of the Patient Stakeholder Group (PSG). With a strong background in community-based support services, Evelyn brings over 10 years of experience providing survivor-centered, culturally competent care to survivors of sexual and gender-based violence through an anti-oppression lens.
Beckie Kriz, RN, MS (she/her), is the Program Director for PCRHP, has 20 years of Reproductive Health research experience implementing complex research projects designed to improve the health and wellbeing of all people in need of reproductive services, particularly those who experience the greatest health disparities. She is an RN with an MS in Nursing focusing on Health Policy from UCSF. Her current projects include the Innovating Contraceptive Care in CHCs and the development of a measure of Sexual and Reproductive Wellbeing. Prior to joining PCRHP she led research projects at both the California Preterm Birth Initiative (PTBi) and Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH).
Lindsey Gibson (pronouns: she/her or they/them) is a Senior Project Manager within the Person-Centered Reproductive Health Program (PCRHP). Their work focuses on improving quality in contraceptive care, through measurement of patient experience and self-identified need for services. Lindsey has a background in public health and has worked across various reproductive justice issue areas, including: birth justice, prenatal care quality improvement, gender-based violence support programs, and self-managed abortion organizing.
Sonja Goetsch-Avila (she/they) is a Project Coordinator with the Person-Centered Reproductive Health Program (PCRHP). Her current projects include Innovating Contraceptive Care in Community Health Centers (ICC in CHCs) and coordination of the Patient Stakeholder Group. Sonja brings over 10 years of experience in the reproductive health, rights and justice sphere -- with particular emphases in direct service, care delivery, program development, policy advocacy and community organizing. Prior to PCRHP, Sonja organized with the JustCARE Campaign and URGE to expand medication abortion access to public university students in California. Sonja earned her B.A. in Community Studies and Feminist Studies from UC Santa Cruz in 2016, completed the Anne Braden Program in 2022 and currently serves on the Board of Directors at ACCESS Reproductive Justice.
Alyssa Lindsey, MPH (she/her), is a Project Manager for PCRHP. Her current projects focus on the Person-Centered Contraceptive Counseling (PCCC) measure and the Sexual and Reproductive Well-Being measure for diverse global contexts. Alyssa has a background in community-engaged Reproductive Justice research, with a special focus on abortion, contraception, and full-spectrum and abortion doula support. Prior to PCRHP, Alyssa worked with the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF) and the Center for Reproductive Health Research in the Southeast (RISE). She currently serves as a Reproductive Justice research consultant for RISE and the Pasque Project.
Whitney Wilson, MPH (she/her) is a Project Director with the Person-Centered Reproductive Health Program (PCRHP) where she has worked since 2015 managing research studies focused advancing sexual and reproductive health and well-being. Whitney is passionate about the development and dissemination of innovative tools designed to support person-centered care and leads the team’s digital tool portfolio, directing studies related to contraceptive care, HIV prevention and adolescent health. In addition to her role at PCRHP, she serves as the Program Manager of the Department of Family and Community Medicine’s Research Community. Prior to joining UCSF, Whitney worked as a project manager and practitioner of scenario planning across the healthcare ecosystem in a strategy consultant and as a health educator at the Women’s Community Clinic in San Francisco.
Jo Williams, MPH, is an advocate, researcher, and artist who is deeply dedicated to the autonomy and wellness of all people with marginalized identities. She received her B.A. in Human Biology from Stanford University in 2016 and earned her Master's in Public Health from UC Berkeley in 2022. Her lived experience in the foster care system informs much of her politics, study, and advocacy in the Child Welfare space and beyond. Her previous research and professional endeavors have ranged from improving sexual health education for local foster youth at the community and state level to increasing primary care use among monolingual Spanish speakers to bolstering lactation access supports for Black mamas and birthing people in the SF Bay Area. Now as the Program Manager for Girlx Lab, Jo is so excited to be joining a group of colleagues that deeply understand the importance of choice, respect, and trust in our advancement of sexual and reproductive health and health care!
Erin Wingo, MSPH (she/her), Project Director at the Person-Centered Reproductive Health Program (PCRHP), has 10 years of experience implementing sexual and reproductive health research, with a focus on improving health services and meeting the needs of individuals impacted by multiple, intersecting structural oppressions. At PCRHP she supports the performance measures portfolio, the Person-Centered Contraceptive Care Training portfolio, and the Adolescent Health digital health resource project, WINK. Prior to joining PCRHP she led research projects for Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH) and Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. Outside of PCRHP, she is volunteers with harm reduction organizations providing direct services to people where they are at.
Sarah Wulf, MPH (she/her) is a Senior Research Project Manager with the Person-Centered Reproductive Health Program at the University of California, San Francisco, where she manages projects to integrate abortion into primary care. She’s served on the Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health Steering Committee and is a member of the organization’s advocacy team. Sarah is a lifelong organizer and advocate, with experience managing electoral and issue-based campaigns. Sarah fought to save the Affordable Care Act from repeal with Raising Women’s Voices and was a Statewide Field Organizer with Planned Parenthood Action Fund. Additionally, Sarah was the Campaign Manager for Barbara Lee for Congress. Sarah holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Colorado College and a Master of Public Health degree from Columbia University.
