Contraceptive care is a core preventive health service, yet competing clinical demands in Community Health Centers (CHCs) can leave it neglected. Primary care providers and systems often face limited time and resources. This creates challenges in delivering this type of individualized care that that necessitates navigating personal values and communicating respect, while avoiding stigmatization. 

 

Effective screening workflows and high-quality contraceptive counseling lead to greater clinical efficiency, timely patient access, and meaningful support of patients in achieving their reproductive health goals. 

 

We are recruiting CHCs from eligible states to participate in the INTERACT Quality Improvement Learning Collaborative (QILC). Participating CHCs will receive training, technical assistance and performance measurement support to set targeted goals, implement QI strategies, and measure progress towards improving contraceptive care.

 

Building on the success of a previous contraceptive care QILC, this flexible program is designed to meet CHCs where they are, leveraging their existing infrastructure and capacity and supporting meaningful, sustainable improvements in person-centered contraceptive care.

Eligibility
Eligible states for INTERACT
  • Be a Community Health Center providing primary care, including contraceptive care 
  • Be able to add the SINC screening question to your EHR 
  • Be able to export data from your EHR 
  • Provide services in one or more of the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia
What CHCs receive
  • $20K to each CHC to support participation
  • Expert-led trainings on a range of contraceptive care-related topics
  • QI structures and accountability
  • Technical assistance to support data collection and QI efforts
  • Data reports and interpretive support 
  • Robust additional resources to support QI
What CHCs will do 
  • Designate Project Champion(s) who will attend project meetings and lead QI efforts 
  • Implement SINC screening tool in EHR and clinical workflows
  • Collect 30 PCCC surveys in preparation and evaluation phases
  • Facilitate EHR data extracts
  • Participate in  virtual and in-person learning sessions 
  • Design and implement quality improvement strategies across two 9-week Action Periods 
  • Participate in process evaluation activities
